Over the next couple of weeks, I have the honor of sharing Lauren and Holt's love story with you all! Not only are these two so photogenic, kind, and loving, but they also know what it means to love Jesus and love others well. Their love story deserves to be yelled from the mountaintops! I'll be sharing images from their proposal, engagement session and wedding.
If you are in need of a great love story, follow along. I promise you won't be disappointed.
I actually had the pleasure of being there when these two met at Woodleaf, a Young Life camp in Northern California, where Holt and I were serving on summer staff, and Lauren was serving as the waterfront intern. It makes it so special that I've been able to witness their love from the beginning. But these two tell their story in such a beautiful way, that I'll allow them the honor of doing so for these blog posts.
How did you two meet?
"If you ask Holt the story of how we met, he will quickly let you in on the fact that I was his boss (while we were at Woodleaf). And indeed I was. I was his boss who blushed bright red upon first introduction; I was his boss who then quickly retreated and scurried away to desperately send a mass "SOS" text to my gal pals back home- like the strong and fearless leader that I am... Despite my attempts to resist any form of human interaction with the impossibly endearing and intriguingly handsome man, fate would have it that we were assigned to start the next day's shift at the same location. I had no hope." -Lauren
Watching these two grow over the month we all spent together at Woodleaf was magical. Six months later, when Holt called me to let me know that he would be proposing to Lauren and wanted me to document it all, I was ecstatic! I got to watch those beginning days of their relationship occur, and now I was going to be able to document the day these two decided they want to spend forever together!
How did you two get engaged?
"I hate surprises. I mean loathe with the deepest depths of me. It's a control thing (I think) but unfortunately this is neither the time nor the place to delve into my psychosis on the matter. All I know is I am so thankful for the way Holt knew this not-so-fun fact about me.
He was visiting me in SLO, and he came upstairs and woke me up on the morning of January 2nd with sweet nothings so naturally I questioned his motives immediately, with half-opened eyes and morning breath. He told me, "today is a very special day for us, Lauren. I'm proposing to you today." Of all the possible responses he imagined, I doubt he expected: no you're not. Which is indeed what I said, quickly followed by an: I'm incapable of being surprised and you're not proposing today. Or maybe he did expect my stubborn reaction, because what he pulled out of his backpack was exactly the reality check I needed to realize how special this day really was. He had bought me a new bible, one engraved with gold cursive Lauren Williamson. Cue the water works. Following that romantic moment, I had to start folding laundry and doing normal people things because in my mind that somehow made this just another day, not some big moment or thing that everyone else amps it up to be. It was just Holt and I following faithfully one more step along the road in which the Lord has paved for us.
So we had breakfast by the beach and smiled as though the sun was shining through us, soaking in the moments. Soon there after he sent me home by myself and I went stubbornly, questioningly, anxiously, only to be greeted by four of my best pals (one of whom was being face-timed in) ecstatically screaming: YOU'RE GETTING ENGAGED TODAY! After getting ready, they whisked me off to get our nails done and grab a bite to eat, all planned by Holt mind you.
After driving me to the location, praying over me, and walking me through the forest, I spotted Holt in this beautiful clearing and started sprinting with the fading voices of my friends yelling: Stop running! You're going to be sweaty! No one likes a sweaty fiancé! Jumping into his arms, I was so full of peace and joy that I had no room for nerves. He had mason jars with candles inside all around, and two giant picture frames filled with photos of us as children. We laughed together and told stories, and then he said some beautiful things about how the Lord has been with us always, preparing us for one another for longer than we knew. But honestly, I blacked out after that because all I kept thinking was you're gonna do the thing, you're gonna get down on one knee and do the thing!
And he did. And I said yes!" -Lauren
Holt even planned an engagement party immediately following his amazingly thought out proposal. He invited Lauren's closest friends and family from all over California to join them in SLO, and Holt's family and a few friends flew in all the way from Texas!
Be on the lookout for part two, Lauren and Holt's sunrise engagement session, coming to the blog next week!
